How to use the exam timer
Name your paper and choose a start time
Enter your paper title and instructions. Choose Start now or set a start date and time using your device’s time zone.
Set the writing time and optional reading time
Choose Duration to enter writing hours and minutes, or Finish time to set when the paper ends. Reading time runs before writing time; with a fixed finish time, it is included in the total session.
Start the countdown and display it to your class
Select Start timer or Set timer, then use Enter fullscreen for a larger classroom display. You can pause, resume or reset the timer.

Is this online exam timer free?
Yes. The Tim Gan Math exam timer is free to use in your browser, with no account or sign-in required.
Can I set an exam timer with reading time?
Yes. Add 0–60 minutes of reading time before 1–720 minutes of writing time. For example, 10 minutes of reading followed by 2 hours of writing takes 2 hours 10 minutes in Duration mode. In Finish time mode, the timer subtracts reading time from the time available before your chosen finish.
Can I start the timer after an exam has already begun?
Yes. Enter the original start date and time and the intended finish time, then select Set timer. The countdown shows the time remaining in the current reading or writing phase, provided the paper has not already ended.
Can I use this as a fullscreen classroom timer?
Yes. Select Enter fullscreen on the countdown display to show it on a classroom screen or projector. Fullscreen availability depends on your browser; if it is unavailable, use your browser’s fullscreen or landscape view.
Will my exam timer survive a page refresh?
The timer saves its session in this browser’s local storage when storage is available. Reopening the page in the same browser restores the session and calculates the remaining time. A paused timer stays paused. Clearing browser data or using a different browser will not restore it.
Can I use this timer for H2 Math or O-Level practice papers?
Yes. Use it for Singapore H2 Math, O-Level Additional Math, E Math or any other timed practice paper. Set the duration and any reading time from your paper’s instructions; this tool does not prescribe official exam timings.
